Most people tolerate chia well in modest portions, but the high fiber can cause gas or bloating if you add too much too quickly. Start with about 1 tablespoon and increase as tolerated while drinking water. Studies commonly use 30–50 g/day for weeks with good tolerance, but individual responses vary. People with sensitive digestion (e.g., IBS) may need smaller portions and slower increases.
Limit Consumption
People with swallowing problems (dysphagia, esophageal strictures) should avoid eating dry chia because it can swell and obstruct the esophagus.
